Local Health Department The Botetourt County Health Department, part of the Alleghany Health District, offers a variety of programs and health services to enhance the health of the county’s citizens. Public health nurses, environmental health specialists and office support staff are dedicated to the mission of promoting optimum health, preventing disease and protecting the health of the community.

Primary care services; psychiatric services; individual psychotherapy and counseling; hormone therapy – in consultation with an endocrinologist; obstetrics/gynecological services; transgender clinic; vaccines; birth control (contraception); referral letters for surgery (including hysterectomy, transmasculine chest reconstruction, transfeminine breast augmentation, orchiectomy, facial plastic surgery) and for gender marker changes; referrals to other trans-competent resources provided, including gender confirmation surgeons.

The Free Clinic of Franklin County provides medical care to the uninsured of Franklin County. Our patients have incomes at or below 175% of the federal poverty guidelines. These are hard-working people who cannot afford the insurance offered by their employers.

Piedmont Access to Health Services, Inc. ("PATHS") is a non-profit 501c3 organization whose mission is to provide healthcare to all citizens (in South Central Virginia) -- regardless of their ability to pay. The vision of PATHS is to provide access to quality primary and specialty care, prescription medication, case management and other ancillary services to the citizens of Southern Virginia and surrounding areas. Inova Juniper Program is Northern Virginia's largest provider of HIV/AIDS care. We are proud to offer all aspects of primary medical care and mental health, substance abuse and case management services to HIV positive individuals along with a history of delivering compassionate HIV/AIDS clinical and education services. Our convenient services are available at locations around Northern Virginia. We provide compassionate, dignified care to individuals regardless of their sex, race, background, sexual orientation, religious preference, financial status or insurance coverage. Programs that provide counseling services for individuals at risk for contracting or transmitting the HIV virus with the objective of supporting their ability to make behavior changes that will reduce their risk of acquiring or transmitting HIV. Counseling involves a personal risk assessment, development of a personalized action plan and the decision to seek an HIV test. Individuals who have a history of injection drug use, unprotected intercourse or sexual contact, sexual activity at a young age, multiple sex partners, sexually transmitted infection, and/or sex trade work are considered to be at high or increased risk and are targets for prevention counseling.

The Madison Free Clinic, Inc. is a non profit organization that enables the uninsured residents of Madison County, who meet the guidelines, to be provided with medical care and medications. The Clinic also provides limited dental and eye care. Volunteers provide almost all of our services.

The Student Health Center’s mission is to provide culturally competent, quality care while promoting healthy lifestyles and behaviors through health promotion and disease prevention. All students are provided equal access to services regardless of their income, race, sex, nationality, age, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

FAHASS provides transportation assistance for HIV-related medical appointments to ensure that clients are able to maintain their medical treatment goals. Clients must contact their Medical Case Manager when with a transportation need. Once the appointment has been validated and the need for transportation has been established, the case manager will work with the client to select the best method for reaching the appointment.

NovaSalud is committed to providing care to people living with HIV regardless of their ability to pay. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, the Ryan White Program provides linkage to the Ryan White HIV care and supportive services. NovaSalud provides free confidential HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C counseling and testing for residents living in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland. Outreach testing has been the foundation of NovaSalud's successful HIV prevention program for the past decade. Appointments are available by phone, online scheduling, or walk-in. The Comprehensive Harm Reduction (CHR) Program is part of a larger Public Health strategy to reduce negative health outcomes for people who engage in substance use. NovaSalud Program incorporates a spectrum of strategies and evidence-based interventions that include overdose, HIV/HCV transmission, and other infection prevention. NovaSalud programs provide support to diverse community members in the DC metropolitan area.
