Central Virginia Health Services is a non-profit community health center with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) status. They started in 1970 as a community-based and patient-directed organization focused on providing care to people with limited access to the health services they need. They are committed to and must uphold a high level of care, meeting administrative, clinical, and financial standards as part of responsibility as a FQHC. They offer comprehensive care: medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and at some sites, x-ray services. The majority of their governing board is made up of their patients – at least 51% of board members must be representative of the patients they serve. This clinic is a school-based clinic.

The Free Clinic of Culpeper provides medical care to residents of Culpeper who have no health insurance with an income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. We provide primary health care services and referrals to speicalists. Our licensed pharmacy provides on-site prescriptions medications. In order to be eligible for services patients must be currently working, seeking employment, or disabled.

Operated for Arlington County, this adult rehabilitation center helps break the cycle of drug and alcohol misuse and equips patients with the tools needed to be successful at the next appropriate level of care.

Western Tidewater Community Services Board serves the Cities of Franklin and Suffolk and the Counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton. We are the single point of entry for access to mental health services, support for intellectual disability, and services for a substance use disorder. CSBs advocate for people who are receiving or need services. We act as community educators, organizers, and planners. We also advise local governments about behavioral health and developmental services and needs.

Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Services

The Rockbridge Area Free Clinic (RAFC) serves low-income, uninsured residents of the Rockbridge area (Lexington, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County) who cannot otherwise afford or obtain health care services. All RAFC patients have incomes below 150% of the federal poverty guideline with the majority actually below 100% of the poverty guideline. The vast majority of RAFC patients work or belong to working families. Of the people currently seeking RAFC services, 65% have one or more chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and/or asthma that require ongoing medical treatment and medication therapy. These diseases, when left unmanaged, are very expensive to treat. In addition, according to the latest census figures there are an approximately 4,000 area low-income residents that could qualify for RAFC care.

The inpatient center is Maryview Behavioral Medicine Center, located on the campus of Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth. Chemical Dependency Consultation and Intervention Services This service is designed to recognize and treat chemical dependency in medical/surgical patients and to reduce the complications associated with chemical dependency. Service is provided by selectively trained members of Maryview's chemical dependency service, and includes medical, nursing and counseling services.
