United Way is a voluntary, nonprofit organization that brings together community volunteers and agencies to provide health and human services to the people of our community. United Way raises funds and invests them in 33 local health and human service agencies and programs dedicated to helping those who need help.

The Virginia HIV/STD/Viral Hepatitis Hotline provides statewide toll-free lines staffed by trained counselors to answer questions and provide crisis intervention, referrals, and written educational materials regarding Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), HIV/AIDS, and Viral Hepatitis.

United Way's Community Assistance Network (CAN) consists of frontline direct-service organizations, providing critical programs and services. Through this network, resource navigation and referral services are provided to Virginia Peninsula residents facing poverty-related crises (including assistance for rent, food, clothing, utility bills, transportation, furniture, and medical needs).

United Way of Greater Williamsburg's Information and Referral Center links people in need to available services. You may have already talked to a couple of human service agencies that were unable to help, don't give up hope. The I&R center collects and maintains information on hundreds of human service organizations - public and private agencies, civic clubs, support or self-help groups, non-profit and for-profit agencies.
