Inpatient Mental Health Facilities

Catawba Hospital is a temporary home. Catawba is an inpatient psychiatric facility with 110 beds that provides comprehensive mental health services including assessment, treatment, and discharge planning. Catawba serves adult patients 18 years and older, with specialized expertise in the treatment of geriatric patients. Catawba Hospital provides the highest standard of professional care. Individualized treatment is provided through interdisciplinary teams (including psychiatry, nursing, internal medicine, social work, psychology, substance abuse, psychosocial rehabilitation, pharmacy, and dietary). Programs in a newly designed treatment mall emphasize psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery from mental illness, and re-integration into the community. Catawba is a Joint Commission accredited facility, certified by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

Transitional Residential Substance Use Disorder Services

Independence House is a nationally-accredited, transitional program that serves male and female residents of Arlington County who have recently completed a primary treatment program. Clients in the early stages of recovery begin to face responsibilities of independent living in a hopeful, supportive atmosphere?working, taking part in job training, or attending school during the day and returning to the facility during the evening. Dedicated counselors, as well as our medical and psychiatric staff, bring a cognitive-behavioral, 12-step approach to support groups. Client groups emphasize self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, and recovery skills. Length of stay varies determined by individual progress and need.

The Behavioral Health Services Division is dedicated to delivering quality mental health and substance abuse care through a variety of programs and services aimed at empowering the individual to improve their quality of life. It is the mission of the Behavioral Health Services Division to provide comprehensive diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and community education services to the individuals of the catchment area. The orientation of the Behavioral Health Services Division is to utilize its resources in ways that are responsive to a variety of community behavioral health needs and to allow for a wide provision of services to individuals across the life span. Individuals are assisted with accessing services which are outside the scope of the Behavioral Health Services Division. The Behavioral Health Services Division provides a continuum of services from short-term therapy, child and adolescent therapy which includes 24-hour emergency crisis intervention services, psychiatric evaluation and medication treatment, through case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as housing and employment assistance for individuals diagnosed with a mental illness, substance use disorder, or a co-occurrence of disorders. This well organized, highly integrated delivery system serves to maximize continuity of care to its individuals. Services provided are based on the belief that treatment is individual driven and implemented in the least restrictive manner available. All behavioral health services offered adhere to professionally accepted standards and practices and are continuously monitored by the Behavioral Health Services Division's quality assurance procedures.

NovaSalud is committed to providing care to people living with HIV regardless of their ability to pay. For those who are uninsured or underinsured, the Ryan White Program provides linkage to the Ryan White HIV care and supportive services. NovaSalud provides free confidential HIV, STI, and Hepatitis C counseling and testing for residents living in Virginia, D.C., and Maryland. Outreach testing has been the foundation of NovaSalud's successful HIV prevention program for the past decade. Appointments are available by phone, online scheduling, or walk-in. The Comprehensive Harm Reduction (CHR) Program is part of a larger Public Health strategy to reduce negative health outcomes for people who engage in substance use. NovaSalud Program incorporates a spectrum of strategies and evidence-based interventions that include overdose, HIV/HCV transmission, and other infection prevention. American Addiction Treatment Center in Newport News, VA, offers medication-assisted treatment, including methadone and buprenorphine (Suboxone) to effectively treat opiate use disorder. Our Outpatient Treatment Center for men and women will begin the treatment process with a clinical evaluation and create a personalized treatment plan. Through individual and group therapy, the goal of treatment is stabilization and eventual discontinued use of any medications. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Stages of Change, and Motivational Interviewing (MI), Relapse prevention, education classes, and 12-step programs are integrated into the program to support ongoing recovery.
