The Council of Community Services Drop-In Center provides access to information/education, resources and services in the prevention and care of HIV/STDs and Hepatitis C (HCV). Let us help show you the way. Your First Step was founded by a group of recovering addicts dedicated to giving others the opportunity for treatment. We connect others with the services they need to help them in their struggle against substance abuse whether that be a detox center, an inpatient or outpatient treatment program, mental health services or just an empathetic ear. As people in recovery ourselves, we have personally experienced the highs and lows of addiction and the recovery process and understand in a way that most others can’t the process of beating addiction. Through our experiences, we’ve learned how important it is to lend a hand to others in need, even when they don’t realize that they need it. Sometimes your first step isn’t admitting that you have a problem – it’s the tentative questions or thoughts that arise about the possibility of treatment. Figuring out where to start and what your options are can be confusing. We know, because we’ve been there. That’s why we’ve created Your First Step, to provide a resource for the men and women who don’t quite know where to begin when it comes to seeking treatment for addiction.

The Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board is committed to improving the quality of life for individuals in our community with behavioral health challenges and developmental disabilities. AHCS is committed to preventing the occurrence of these conditions through an integrated community-based system of care. AHCS is committed to being responsive to individual needs and choices. Alleghany Highlands Community Services (AHCS) began in 1983 and is one of forty Community Services Boards and Behavioral Health Authorities established under the Code of Virginia to provide comprehensive services to individuals who have mental health disorders, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders. As the publicly funded safety net for service delivery, we must continuously monitor and evaluate our cost for services as well as the effectiveness of what we do. AHCS operates multiple service sites throughout the Alleghany Highlands, with over 127 employees working to support our services. We are proud to have served our community for 38 years. AHCSB is accountable to and licensed by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) for the quality of care and fiscal accountability of the programs under its jurisdiction. AHCS is governed by a nine-person all-volunteer board appointed with members from each jurisdiction by local governing bodies – Alleghany County, Clifton Forge and the City of Covington. The Board members are people from the community with various occupations and interests who serve three-year terms of office.

In 1998, the County Board designated the ACCSB as an “administrative policy community services board.” Under this model, the County’s Department of Human Services is charged with the delivery and management of services while the ACCSB retains its role in policy determination, the direction of services and as an advocate of funding needs. The County serves as the fiscal agent for the ACCSB. To learn more about the relationship between the ACCSB and the County Manager, read the Memorandum of Agreement between the Arlington County Services Board and the Arlington County Manager. The ACCSB is an active body made up of interested members of the community who are appointed by the County Board. The ACCSB meets monthly. Members also frequently participate in one of the committees established by the ACCSB that represent the major service areas. Within these committees are opportunities to provide evaluations of services and to influence budget requests or allocations. The ACCSB is composed of a Chairperson, appointed by the County Board, and as many as 17 other members. NVFS’ Multicultural Center provides a wide range of immigration legal, mental health, and case management services, particularly for individuals and families new to the United States. Access to healthcare is a key element of any thriving community. With this in mind, Pathways Free Specialty Clinic is working with various partners to provide myriad health resources for Southside Virginia. Physicians and nurses volunteer their time to offer free services in the following areas: heart conditions, arthritis, sleep disorders, asthma, women?s breast health, and vaccinations for flu and Hepatitis B. We also provide education in nutrition, exercise, managing fibromyalgia, and more.

​Chesapeake Care Clinic's mission is to provide medical and dental services to the low-income and underserved individuals in Hampton Roads in order to fulfill our vision to improve the quality of life in our community.

Mutual support groups whose members are individuals who have a substance use disorder or any of a number of behavioral addictions which are akin to substance-related disorders in clinical expression, brain origin, comorbidity, physiology and treatment. The groups meet in-person, by telephone or via the Internet; provide emotional support, information and resources to help those who participate modify their behavior; and may include faith-based and secular 12-step groups as well as non-12 step groups.

Southside Treatment Center provides opioid addiction treatment and recovery in Richmond and surrounding areas including Bensley, Bellwood, Chester, Chesterfield, Wilkinson Terrace and Midlothian. Southside TC has a dedicated team of treatment specialists including doctors, nurses and counselors to provide comprehensive care to each patient.

ACTS serves the entirety of Prince William County, including the town of Dumfries, the city of Manassas, and Manassas Park, providing a lifeline of critical services to residents in need. From food assistance and housing services to crisis intervention and domestic violence support, ACTS ensures that individuals and families throughout these communities receive comprehensive care. By addressing the unique needs of each area it serves, ACTS fosters stability and hope, making a profound impact on the lives of nearly 65,000 people annually.
