Rapid HIV Tests | CrossOver Healthcare Ministry: Richmond
Rapid HIV Tests
CrossOver Healthcare Ministry is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operates two charitable healthcare clinics providing low-income, uninsured and medically underserved residents of the Richmond metro area with high quality, compassionate healthcare services. In FY21, CrossOver served 6,251 people through our wide range of programs with the help of more than 275 dedicated volunteers. CrossOver provides a medical home to our patients, offering an innovative integration of health services under one roof, including primary and specialty care, chronic disease management, medication and medications management, dental, vision, pediatrics, mental health counseling, women’s health & OB/GYN, HIV/AIDS diagnosis and treatment, social work case management, and health education. CrossOver operates the Community Pharmacy, the only on-site pharmacy operated by a charitable clinic in the Richmond area, which filled 30,360 prescriptions worth an estimated $8,908,539 in FY21. The Community Pharmacy partners with six other safety net providers in the area to process and fill prescription requests for their patients. CrossOver also operates Bridges to Health, a weekly hospital discharge clinic program intended to link new patients with the resources necessary to successfully manage their healthcare following a hospital stay.
CrossOver's patient population is comprised of Virginia residents who are medically underserved, uninsured, or enrolled in Medicaid, and whose incomes are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). At the end of FY21, CrossOver’s patient base were 80% uninsured and 20% Medicaid enrolled. CrossOver’s patient base is incredibly diverse, comprised of many immigrant and refugee patients representing over 100 different nationalities and speaking 40 different languages.
Chronic disease conditions, such as heart disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases, and hypertension, are among the leading causes of preventable hospitalizations and death in Virginia. These conditions disproportionately affect poor households; according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), low-income adults are twice as likely to develop diabetes as their peers and also suffer increased rates of uncontrolled high blood pressure. The health implications of the combination of economic and healthcare insecurity are significant, especially related to chronic disease. In order to address this need within our patient population, CrossOver specializes in the management of chronic diseases. Through our integrated approach to care, our goal is to help all our patients manage various aspects of their health and well-being so that they may lead more fulfilling lives.
CrossOver is uniquely positioned to provide these services because of our numerous community partnerships and committed cohort of volunteers. In FY21, CrossOver volunteer base was comprised of more than 275 volunteers who provided over 19,350 hours of service. Among our volunteers are hundreds of licensed healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, counselors, and eye-care professionals. Thanks to our volunteer-driven model of care, CrossOver is able to maintain a low cost-per-patient-visit and provide the greatest amount of specialty care to low-income, uninsured patients in the Richmond metro area.
